Mink + Fox was established in 2017 as a brand which encapsulates my passions in life – beauty, comfort, animals, craft and, of course, my beautiful dog.
Primarily a one-woman show, I cover all aspects of the brand myself with some help and support from my husband and our fur child aka mascot – Snowy the Westie! From creation to packaging to photography, most of what you see is done by me. It’s thrilling to have such artistic freedom, but it does mean that I’m neither as perfect nor efficient as a larger commercial brand. Still, Mink + Fox is all about heart and every piece I create is filled with my signature brand of love and quirkiness. Having said that, rest assured that I take pride in ensuring that every piece is of the highest quality I can muster.
how it all began
Despite being fairly new to knitting and crocheting, I have developed a real passion for both crafts. There is just something so therapeutic and satisfying about watching individual strands of thread coming together to create something tangible and beautiful.
I first started crocheting because my furry child had recently discovered her vain side and took delight in flaunting new outfits. It was a great source of delight for my family and her, but I soon started running out of options a little. Doggy accessories aren’t that easy to find, and although she isn’t exactly huge, she was always just half a size larger than the default pretty offerings.
Not wanting to choke my dog, I decided to try my hand at knitting since I had acquired some balls of jersey yarn. One thing led to another, and by the end of a very enjoyable evening, I had created a pretty necklace for her. Thrilled, it suddenly occurred to me that I wouldn’t mind wearing something like that myself. So, I picked up my yarn again, and soon created a matching necklace for myself.
As we both preened in front of the mirror, something clicked. A whole range of possibilities stretched before me, and what started as a little flicker of interest soon blossomed in a flame of passion.
Needless to say, my little girl is my muse, and the reason that my brand even exists. She’s the heart and soul of Mink + Fox, and is currently earning her weight in bones and yummies.
